Esteam - Lego Stop-Motion Movie Makers for Grades 1-5 (WCHE)West Cypress Hills ElementaryLEGO® Stop-Motion Movie Makers Lights, camera, LEGO®! In LEGO® Stop-Motion Movie Makers, students become filmmakers, storytellers, builders, directors, and production crew members as they create their own animated movies using LEGO® bricks and stop-motion technology. Working in small production teams, students will design LEGO® sets, create original characters, develop storylines, film stop-motion scenes, add sound effects, and produce short animated movies. Each week introduces a different part of the filmmaking process, giving students opportunities to build new skills while bringing their creative ideas to life. This hands-on class combines creativity, storytelling, engineering, technology, communication, and teamwork in a fun and engaging format. Kardivas for 5th Grade Girls (WCHE)West Cypress Hills ElementaryWhat is Kardivas? Kardivas is a character-building club for 5th grade girls designed to encourage each girl to recognize that she is uniquely created with purpose, has worth, and has something valuable to contribute. For more than 20 years, Kardivas has helped prepare LTISD girls for the transition to middle school through weekly meetings, service projects, social activities, and positive mentorship. Every 5th grade girl is invited to join! What is the Club Like? Kardivas meetings are fun, welcoming, and interactive! Girls enjoy a snack, receive awards, participate in icebreaker games, and take part in meaningful discussions focused on character and relationships. Topics may include honesty, being a good friend, forgiveness, gratitude, and other skills that help girls build confidence and positive relationships. In addition to weekly meetings, Kardivas offers optional social events, service projects, and special celebrations, including Christmas and Easter parties. These events are held off campus and outside of the regular Thursday meeting time, and participation is completely optional. How is Kardivas Organized? Each Kardivas club is organized and managed by a team of leader moms who have a 5th grade daughter at the school. Lake Travis High School senior girls also serve as mentors, helping lead activities and discussions during club meetings. Scholarships are available upon request. During each session, students will listen to or read Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman. Students will participate in discussions and activities about the story and complete a creative craft connected to the book’s theme, characters, or setting. Throughout the 8-week club, students will also enjoy a special themed snack during each meeting and will get to keep a copy of the book.
