Competitive Art Prep: Creating Award-Worthy Artwork

Take your art skills to the next level and learn what it takes to compete in Texas art competitions! In this course, students will explore the opportunities available for high school artists and learn the essential steps for creating successful competition-ready artwork.

Students will discover how to develop strong artistic concepts and prepare submissions through hands-on guidance in areas such as:

• Understanding conceptual art and developing meaningful ideas
• Taking effective reference photos
• Creating thumbnails and concept sketches
• Developing creative titles and artist statements
• Practicing how to discuss and present personal artwork
• Preparing for artist interviews and critiques

Students will also learn valuable strategies for success, including exploring different mediums, managing deadlines, creating project schedules, overcoming “art block,” and refining their creative process.

Throughout the course, students are encouraged to bring works-in-progress to receive feedback, collaboration, and new perspectives that can help strengthen their artwork.
