Rocky's Reading Club for Grades 4-5

If you have a big appetite for reading and love sharing great books with friends, Rocky's Reading Club is for you! Join us at Rough Hollow Elementary as we dive into three fantastic Texas Bluebonnet Books: Saved by the Smell by Jarrett Lerner, Pocket Bear by Katherine Applegate, and Gabby Torres Gets a Billion Followers by Angela Dominguez. This isn't your average book club—each week’s reading will launch us into hands-on games, creative projects, STEM challenges, mysteries, and unforgettable adventures inspired by the stories. Our ultimate goal is to celebrate the pure joy of reading without any boring busywork as we laugh, imagine, create, and explore together. Best of all, every student will receive and keep a copy of each book we read to build their very own home library!
We are also thrilled to announce that Angela Dominguez, the author of Gabby Torres Gets a Billion Followers, will be visiting Rough Hollow Elementary this fall as a special author visit! Participating in this club is the perfect way to get ahead on your reading goals for the Texas Bluebonnet Award. Reading these three books works directly towards the state's "Read 5 to Decide" requirement, allowing you to vote for your favorite book in the spring, and qualifies you to go on the exciting Bluebonnet Field Trip in February as part of the LTISD reading program. Because we want to dive straight into the fun during our meetings, some reading will take place at home between classes.
Is This Club a Fit for My Child?

✅ Yes, if: Your child reads completely independently, gets excited about choosing books, and looks forward to discussing stories and doing hands-on projects with peers.
❌ No, if: Your child is still learning how to read, struggles significantly with comprehension, or views reading as a chore. (We love supporting all literacy journeys, but this specific club is an enrichment celebration rather than an instructional intervention!)
